Geese
The problem is that the Federal Government put all “Migratory” birds under Federal protection many years ago. However, many of these birds no longer migrate, or instead of their historical 2 to 3 thousand mile migration, they opt for 2 to 3 hundred miles or less. This has earned them a new classification as “Resident” birds. They infest man made landscapes which are predator free, fouling waterways and destroying vegetation at an alarming rate. An adult Goose can consume up to 4 pounds of lush grasses per day, and deposit some 3 pounds of waste per day. You don’t have to be a math whiz to realize that in short order, you can have a huge and costly problem.
Add to that, the fact that one pair of Geese producing offspring, become over 50 Geese in just 5 years. So if you have 10 pair, they become 500 Geese in 5 years and 50 pair become over 2500 birds in 5 years. That is a huge problem, any way you look at it.
Successful flock harassment is the only viable solution. While there are several methods applied to this task, studies have shown, and we feel as well, that dogs are the only real deterrent and that our unique approach achieves the best results. Additionally, we employ the use of lasers for low light flock dispersal.
Once we have managed to relocate the Geese, we can then identify changes in landscaping and shoreline access that can greatly reduce repeat occurrences.
We can consult and guide you through these changes or provide them for you.
